Tandan Housing Cooperative was established with the participation of victims of housing scam and social housing activists in Dongtan and Hwaseong City, with the aim of promoting the recovery and self-reliance through a social economy approach to the problem of rental fraud that occurred in institutional blind spots.
The Korea Social Value Solidarity Fund provided an interest-free matching loan of KRW 5 million to the healing fund established by the Korea Social Housing Association to support the stable operation of the Tantan Housing Cooperative.
A total of KRW 100 million was provided to the Cooperative for the emergency return of tenants’ security deposits, which helped smooth the initial cash flow of the operation.
As of December 24, 14 of the 21 affected members were recovered and have moved out successfully. Also 7 members have completed the renewal contract. Therefore, the total loss caused by the fraud was compensated up to 94%.
Currently, the building operated by Tantan is being transformed into a youth social housing through consultations with stakeholders such as the Korea Social Housing Association and the Gyeonggi Province.
