SVS invested in a social impact bond (SIB) project for dementia prevention in Buyeo-gun for the mildly cognitively impaired, which is being implemented by a non-metropolitan area local government for the first time in Korea.
Besides SVS, other private investors with social values such as the Happiness Sharing Foundation, Bplus, and MYSC also invested in the project. The target of the project is that 300 senior citizens aged 60 to 80 in Buyeo-gun with mild cognitive impairment are provided care and specialized cognitive traing programs using ICT and AI. So it is expected that the morbidity caused by dementia is reduced to 9.7% or less. If the goal meets, Buyeo-gun government will pay for the reward to the investors. Our partner social finance intermediary specialized in SIB projects, Pan Impact Korea manages the project.
As of the end of December 2023, out of 154 elderly people who completed the post-assessment after the service intervention, only 5 (3.25%) were morbidly ill with dementia, contributing to the reduction of dementia morbidity among the elderly in rural areas.
